Cruising PHRF Class Start Member Club Regattas

The DRYA is offering a Cruising Class start this year.  The Class will be following Rules established for the BYC’s Mackinac Race and are shown below.  If you are interested in joining this class please contact me at spiersdjam@aol.com or sign up under Cruising PHRF on the DRYA annual renewal form.  Other items of interest are as follows:
The start will be initially combined with the JAM start on ‘A’ Course.  This start is the first start of the day.
The race pennant for the class will be determined shortly.
DRYA currently allows non-DRYA members to race for the first year without paying the annual dues.  This is being done to help promote sailing in DRYA’s Member Club Regattas.
All sailors are encouraged to come out and enjoy Club Racing on the Friday evening and Saturday Regattas.

Cruising PHRF Class Rules

This Class will be open to PHRF boats or Offshore One Design boats that possess a valid PHRF certificate.  Should IRC be adopted as the handicap rule by DRYA then it shall be used.
Participants in the Class will elect a Class Captain/Secretary who will be the spokesman for the Class in future matters.
The Class Rules will be patterned on the BYC Cruising Class for the BYC Mackinac Race.  DRYA Handbook Section 15 also applies.

Boats will be subject to the following limitations:
Headsails must be flown hanked to the headstay or in the headstay groove.  Asymmetrical spinnakers may be flown as provided below.
Staysails may not be flown on sloop rigged boats.  Other boats may fly a staysail in the foretriangle provided that the combined areas of the stay sail and headsail do not exceed the area of the largest jib.
If a roller furler credit is given (a) all headsails must be cut for the roller furler, (b) the roller furler must be used throughout the race and (c) during headsail changes, the old sail must be dropped to the deck and the new sail then put on the roller furler and hoisted.
Symmetrical spinnakers may not be used.  Asymmetrical spinnakers may be flown provided they (a) are flown without a whisker or spinnaker pole and (b)  are attached to a tack point (or are attached to a tack line that is led to a tack point) that is no more than 12 inches fore or aft of the jib tack point on the centerline of the hull.
Whisker or spinnaker poles may be used only for headsails
